Associate Pastor for Youth and Small Groups

JOB SUMMARY

The Pastor for Youth and Small groups (PYSG) is responsible for leading the youth ministry (6th grade to young adults) and the small groups ministry. To connect, care and encourage youth to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and each other through spiritual leadership and role modeling. This includes developing programs, events, recruitment of volunteers, and fundraising. Responsible for overseeing and administration of Small groups functions as well as assisting with the recruiting, training, and coordinating of small groups leaders and hosts. As a part of the Staff and Leadership Team, the Pastor promotes small groups and facilitates the interaction and relationship between the youth and the congregation in general and youth participation in the church’s life and leadership.

JOB EXPECTATIONS

The primary role of this position is to develop youth programs, including weekly youth group meetings, retreats, and mission trips. Leading alongside volunteers, the youth pastor provides a forum for youth to learn about God in a fun, relevant, and friendly way. The secondary role is to lead the small groups ministry.
Work in partnership with the Lead Pastor and staff to meet objectives, strategies, and plans for the church’s small groups and youth ministry. Function as a member of the church’s ministerial staff by assisting with pastoral roles as needed by the team. Able to think, plan, and act strategically and relationally. Focused on developing leaders and has a passion for helping people grow personally and spiritually.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Be an advocate for youth and educate the congregation about youth’s hopes, concerns, and needs in the local church and community. Cultivate community and relationship with youth.
  • Lead weekly youth activities. Prepare or provide Biblical instruction within the Church of the Nazarene doctrine.
  • Function as the overall leader of Youth Ministries, NYI Council, volunteer leaders, and ministry direction.
  • Be involved in recruiting and training volunteers who work with youth and ensure adequate volunteer support and adult-to-youth ratios.
  • Be Youth Ministry representative and liaison at weekend worship services, including occasional preaching.
  • Be (or appoint) a liaison between the church and other community organizations, people, and resources related to youth and youth ministries: Foster mentorship, discipleship, and investment through small groups.
  • Partner with parents in the spiritual formation of their teens. Provide resources to assist parents in discipleship.
  • Foster a robust and active network of small group leaders, group members, and individuals interested in becoming part of the church’s small groups ministry. Provide constant communication with teens, parents, and church.
  • Plan and execute regular small group leader training and recognition events.
  • Create promotional materials and methods that ensure everyone at the church knows the small groups ministry area, its purpose and importance, and how to get connected.
  • Communicate promptly and effectively using all available resources (email, website, bulletin, newsletter, bulletin board, etc.). Ensure communication with the Lead Pastor, church staff, leadership team, parents, volunteers, and the congregation.
  • Work in concert with the gifts and talents of other staff members and maintain a teamwork mentality.
  • Ensure that the Child Protection Policy is observed in all youth ministry settings.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND SALARY

Although experience and proficiency with Youth is expected, this position can mold into Northwest Church of the Nazarene’s requirements, vision and goals. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in biblical studies or a related field is preferred. (Extensive ministry experience, in some cases, can be substituted.) The successful individual will be a strong Christian leader with a solid work ethic and the ability to administrate as a department head. Working knowledge of office software, and social networking web applications is encouraged. Salary is very competitive for the area, including group medical insurance and generous benefits.

Children’s Pastor

JOB SUMMARY

The Children’s Pastor is responsible for providing leadership, development, and direction for the Children’s Ministry staff and volunteers regarding the vision, mission, and strategy of Northwest Church of the Nazarene, the Childcare, and our community. To connect, care and encourage children to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and each other through spiritual leadership and role modeling. The Children’s pastor is the liaison between the church and the childcare, with roles in both ministries.

JOB EXPECTATIONS

The primary role of this position is to develop children’s ministry programs, including Sunday morning activities and children’s ministry events. Oversee all programming and ministry for children ages birth – 5th grade, including Sunday mornings, special events, baptism class, summer programming, camps, etc. Leading alongside volunteers, the children’s pastor provides a forum for children to learn about God in a fun and friendly way. Work in cooperation with families to prepare children for the eventual cross-over into youth ministry. Keep parents well informed and at ease releasing their children into the care of the Children’s Ministry.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee the administration of the Children’s Ministries. Work closely with the Lead Pastor and Childcare Director.
  • Retain, train, and mentor Children’s volunteer staff and recruit new volunteers. Develop and maintain a children’s check-in process.
  • Ensure children’s discipleship and spiritual formation by choosing curriculum and programs that promote growth.
  • Continually develop and maintain ways to promote intergenerational relationships between the children and the rest of the community at Northwest. Equip parents to disciple their children.
  • Administer Ministry Safe background checks and develop a secure ministry area and policies for
    maintaining a safe environment for children’s ministry.
  • Provide up-to-date information for weekly and monthly communications with parents and the church. Maintain website and social media posts specific to children’s ministry.
  • Resource families with elementary children so they can effectively minister to their families and community.
  • Partner with Childcare Director in planning and staffing Childcare and Church events (VBS, Trunk or Treat, Summer Festival, Egg hunt, etc.)
  • Be active and present in Childcare classrooms to connect with children and teachers. Provide Christian resources or classes to Childcare families for parenting, healthy habits, discipleship, etc.
  • Work alongside the Youth Pastor to bring continuity to the spiritual formation of children through 12th grade.
  • Develop an annual children’s ministry budget and be able to work within that budget.
  • Attend Staff Meetings and designated trainings as scheduled by the Lead Pastor.
  • Participate in District and General Church of the Nazarene events that do not detour but enhance program objectives.
  • Seek God for the vision and direction of the overall Children’s Ministries
